There is a saying, “that you can take a person out of the country (environment) but can you take the country (unsophisticated habits) out of the person”. To have a vibrant and sustainable community a culture of excellence has to be established and identifiable. Therefore, we must partner with Riley Elementary School. Create a park to the entrance of the housing development on the corner of Callaway and Abraham Street. Construct a baseball field and establish a tee-ball and little league team in the after school program. Not only do we need brick and mortar, we need a symbol (mascot, murals, etc.) of pride. Also, the City Housing Authority could do a land swap with the 6 homes on Indiana Street and easily construct 12 affordable homes on Callaway Street facing the school and exchange 6 with the Indiana Street owners and identify 6 first time home buyers from the Springfield Community. Now, you control the entire southern boundary leading into the development. I get excited thinking about it. Let’s talk and work out the details. Thanks! Donald Glasper
I think pets shouldn't be allowed because they always get lose. I also think that all the hills should be removed. More locations for mailboxes instead of just one.. quick ways to get to the office and to childrens schools. It's so much field that we are not allowed to drive on to get close to our apartments if we have to move or when it's raining so we can pull cars up to the porch to avoid them. Definitely change the color. Take the other office building out and place more playgrounds for the kids or spots for the adults to come together to have a community cookout. Kitchens should be bigger. Have a place for washer and dryer in apartments.take down the clothes lines because they are old and rusty from previous residents that stayed before current residents. Better outside lighting. Bathrooms should be bigger as well as the rooms.
The neighborhood has amazing trees!
I am so excited to be working in this and really looking forward to hearing more from residents and other stakeholders about their wants, needs and desires.
I think the project should be pedestrian friendly. Sidewalks, street trees and front porches all designed to support community.
